Freedom Bell

A smiling Dugan rings his bellDugan graduated this fall, proudly ringing his Freedom Bell.

And students keep right on ringing their Freedom Bells this week and next, and on into the New Year! Thanks to the 69 individuals who gave online on Colorado Gives Day, December 5, as well as the two dozen or more who brought in checks or cash. We especially want to recognize the Tuesday morning Older Programs group who passed a bucket around the room for contributions at the urging of John Batron. Our total for the Day was $13,353.

In addition, the weeks of November preceding the big day saw us collect another $10,000-plus.

Colorado Gives Day again broke its previous giving records, with $36,129,285 in donations from more than 150,000 donors. Our portion was modest compared to that number, but we are very happy and grateful for our small part and the opportunities these funds offer to our students. It’s great to be part of this statewide effort in its eighth year!

C.G. out front holding up her wooden wind chimesWe have three graduations this week – Courtney, or C.G. as she has been known in her time at CCB, graduated on Monday, Suzie today, wednesday, and Ellen finishes on Thursday. All of them finished excellent wood shop projects last week. Ellen built a very nice bookshelf, and both C.G. and Suzie made the first sets of wind chimes students have made here. There must be something in the air … Well, the ringing of Freedom Bells, naturally!

Cindy rings her bell

Cindy served a great meal to the entire Center on September 4 as the culmination of her program. She had lots of family from Arizona with her – her Mom and sister, with two little nephews, as well as her Aunt and Uncle and two of her cousins made the long road trip from Nogales to be a part of her celebration of success and independence.

Cindy made her Uncle’s chicken recipe as part of her chicken salad, which was accompanied by a peach iced tea and strawberry shortcake. Despite a food processor malfunction the morning of her graduation, she powered through on the strength of the confidence she has gained in herself throughout her program, and on the confidence her instructors have in her.

Cindy honored two of her instructors, Delfina for Management and Steve for Travel, by asking them to jointly present her Freedom Bell at her graduation.
