This is Chaz Davis’ final week as a Social Work Intern at the Center, and Director Julie Deden marked the occasion with a short ceremony and presentation of a thank-you card, followed by cookies.

“I joined the blind community four years ago, though not as a blind person,” Chaz said. “I was a social work intern at the , and I learned so much. I learned that blind people are just people. They do everything that sighted people do, and they do it well. I also learned that I wanted to be a part of this community.”

Chaz’s internship was part of the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work program. He worked with students in the Independence Training Program, helping them develop skills in areas such as Braille, cane travel, and home management. He also assisted with youth programs, including the Confidence Camp for Kids and the Fun Activities and Skills Training (FAST) program.

“Chaz has been a wonderful addition to our team,” Julie said. “He’s been a great support to our students and has brought a fresh perspective to our programs. We’re going to miss him.”

Chaz plans to continue his work in the field of social work, with a focus on serving the blind and visually impaired community. “I want to help people live the lives they want to live,” he said. “And I want to continue to be a part of this amazing community.”
